Judicial probe into doctors' killing urged
KARACHI: The College of Family Medicine Pakistan (CFMP) has appealed to the government to set up a judicial inquiry commission to probe into the targeted killing of doctors, and provide security cover so that they discharge duties fearlessly. "The CFMP mourns the death of its former president Dr M A Chhipa, who had been the vice-president of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Karachi chapter, and all other doctors who have lost their lives at the hand of terrorists," President of CFMP Dr Shariatullah Siddiqui and CFMP Secretary Dr Aziz Khan Tank said in a joint statement on Friday. The CFMP also appealed to both federal and provincial governments to take steps on war-footing basis to apprehend the real culprits involved in the killing of the doctors. "Killing of doctors in Karachi has created uncertainty, confusion and anxiety, which may ultimately affect the entire health system," a communique said. Dr Sher said: "Some 43 doctors were killed either in their clinics or at their homes." A joint condolence meeting of PMA and CFMP will be held on Saturday at 3.30 pm at PMA House to offer Fateha Khawaani for the departed soul of Dr M A Chhipa and other doctors, who lost their lives in the recent wave of terrorism.
